Cali Cattails
I am often stopped at the red light facing the Library on Central and 22nd street. I day I was imagining the small cattails gracing that corner, so I made these rendering and sent them to the library director. It doesn't hurt to ask. He's looking into it.
A composite photoshop file of what the Central Avenue Cattails would look like in front of the Library.

These are the two sets of cattail sculptures that are temporarily installed in the California Building backyard. When we finished the large cattails in Richfield, we had a bunch of donut holes left over. It seemed a shame to torse them so I assembled them into these two new sculptures. I used 1/2″ conduit and 1/4″ stainless steel for the stalks and tips. They were much easier to handle than the large cattails.

I have reached out to the Library administrator at the corner of central avenue and 22nd Street. They would look great on that corner. Because of the many excellent James Brenner sculptures on 22nd street and that the California Building grounds is a sculpture park, 22nd street is becoming known as a “sculpture corridor.” It we put the Cattails on the library corner, it would extend this sculpture corridor all the way to Central Avenue, which is one of the boundaries of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.

This just makes sense. More on this latter…
